Editorial Standards & Ethics
Our Mission
At The Anfield Road, we are committed to delivering trusted, accurate, and passionate journalism about Liverpool FC. As the first fan-led site written entirely by professional journalists, we aim to bridge the gap between newsroom standards and supporter voice — reporting with integrity, honesty, and respect for the club, the community, and the game.
We strive to inform, inspire, and connect Liverpool fans across the world by upholding the highest ethical and editorial standards. Our goal is to tell Liverpool’s story with fairness, accuracy, and authenticity — always putting truth before clicks, and passion before profit.
Feedback
We welcome feedback, discussion, and constructive criticism from our readers. The Anfield Road encourages open dialogue between our audience, writers, and editorial team. Whether you have a correction, suggestion, or just want to share your thoughts, we value your input.
Feedback helps us:
- Clarify stories and provide updates.
- Improve the accuracy and balance of our reporting.
- Identify new issues or ideas that matter to our readers.
- Correct any mistakes as quickly as possible.
You can reach us via our Contact Us page, through our official social channels, or directly via author profiles featured across the site.
Diversity & Inclusion
The Anfield Road proudly represents Liverpool’s diverse and global fanbase. We are committed to reflecting all voices — regardless of background, nationality, gender, or belief.
Our newsroom values inclusivity, equality, and respect in all forms, and we hold ourselves accountable for maintaining a culture that reflects the spirit of “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
Ethics
Our work is guided by five core principles of ethical journalism:
- Truth & Accuracy – We will always strive for factual accuracy and transparency. When we cannot confirm details, we will make that clear.
- Independence – Our writers act freely and independently, without influence from outside interests, sponsors, or affiliations.
- Fairness & Impartiality – Every story will aim to present a balanced view, adding context and clarity.
- Humanity – We do not seek to cause harm. We treat players, staff, fans, and all sources with respect and empathy.
- Accountability – When we make mistakes, we correct them promptly and openly.
We also aim to follow guidance from the Ethical Journalism Network and The Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics.
Corrections
If you believe we’ve published an error, please let us know. We take factual accuracy seriously and will issue corrections or clarifications promptly when needed.
Corrections can be submitted via our Contact page or by emailing our editorial team directly. Our editors routinely review published content to ensure the highest standards of reliability and fairness.
Coverage Priorities
Our focus is Liverpool — the club, the culture, and the community. We aim to produce coverage that is insightful, original, and reflective of the fans’ perspective, while maintaining journalistic rigour.
Articles will always carry clear author attribution and, where possible, contact or social details for transparency. Where anonymity or lack of byline is required, an explanation will be provided.
Unnamed Sources
While we prefer transparency, there are occasions where anonymity protects sources and allows important stories to be told. Any use of unnamed sources will be:
- Approved by an editor.
- Contextually explained to readers.
- Corroborated by multiple, credible points of verification.
Fact Checking
Our contributors and editors are responsible for ensuring all reporting meets our editorial standards. That includes:
- Verifying facts and statistics before publication.
- Crediting and linking to original sources.
- Distinguishing between verified information, opinion, and speculation.
- Reviewing potentially sensitive or controversial stories with extra care.
If inaccuracies occur, they will be corrected quickly and transparently.
Plagiarism
The Anfield Road maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy on plagiarism. Any journalist found to have used the work of others without proper credit or permission will face disciplinary action.
Sponsored Content
We are a reader-first publication. The Anfield Road does not accept sponsored posts or paid-for editorial content. Any partnership or commercial material will be clearly labelled and kept separate from editorial reporting.
The Anfield Road stands for the values that define both great journalism and great football — honesty, passion, respect, and accountability.
